How to Prepare

The Receptionist will need to know:

  1. Your Contact Details.
  2. Health Card Number & Patient ID Number.
  3. The Name of your Family Physician.

The Receptionist will ask the following:

  1. If you are a new patient at our office?
  2. If you have any specific vision interests or needs?i.e. contact lenses, safety eyeglasses, specific occupational vision tests
  3. If you require any special accommodations?i.e. language barrier, confined to a wheelchair, allergies to fragrances

This details your current vision or eye concerns and past eye problems; Related to:

  1. Injuries, Infections, and Vision Disturbances.
  2. General Health.
  3. Hereditary Health & Eye Problems.
  4. The medication you consume.
  5. Types of recreational activities you take part in.

The Receptionist will inform you of the following:

  1. What to bring for your appointment.
  2. Fees for various services.
  3. Other information is specific to the services you are receiving.

New Patients: Bring Old Glasses.

Payment & Coverage

When booking your appointment the basic examination fee will be provided. As a result of findings made during your exam, further diagnostic testing may be recommended and may increase the fee.

  • Payment is made after the examination.
  • Fees may exceed those provided by private health insurance plans.
  • If there are any concerns regarding payment, please discuss them with the receptionist or optometrist.

After your examination, you may request a copy of your eyeglass prescription.

Among the services we provide is an eyeglass and contact lens dispensary. We enjoy a large high and medium-end brand name selection of glasses and contact lenses to choose from.

When Ordering Glasses Keep in Mind:

  • A deposit is required when glasses are ordered.
  • The balance of the fee is paid when the patient obtains the glasses.
  • Contact lens fees are paid upon pickup (no deposit is necessary).
  • Fees for contact lens teachings or examinations are to be paid after receiving the services.

Health Insurance Coverage

The provincial health insurance plan does not cover the cost of eyeglasses or contact lenses.

  • Some coverage is provided for a new pair of eyeglasses every three years.
  • Typically the cost of lenses is covered and some of the frame costs are covered.
  • There is no coverage for contact lenses unless medically necessary.
  • Some coverage is provided for a new pair of eyeglasses every two years.
  • Typically the cost of basic lenses are covered and some of the frame costs are covered.
  • There is no coverage for contact lenses unless medically necessary.

Private plans generally cover some or all of the cost of eyeglasses or contact lenses. We will provide patients with a copy of the receipt to submit to their insurance company for reimbursement.
